Founded in 1934, Venetian shoe label René Caovilla rose to prominence in the 1960s with the introduction of the iconic Cleo sandal, which features a spiralling ankle strap modelled on a Roman bracelet at the Naples National Archaeological Museum. Today the brand is helmed by Edoardo Caovilla, the founder’s grandson, who draws inspiration from eclectic sources including Tang porcelain, Islamic architecture and Burano lace to create unique, eye-catching footwear.
