Is Uber or Lyte available in Oakland? BTW, I lived on Jean St. almost 50 years ago. The rose garden was smaller then, and not very well known, and I enjoyed it as my own "private" paradise. So glad it has thrived!

Definitely walkable; I would say about a mile to the nearest point of Lake Merritt and then maybe another mile down Grand Ave. to Fairyland. There is a parking lot (with small fee on weekends) right by Fairyland which would also give you a good starting point to walk the perimeter of the lake with is about 3 miles around and very nice and popular with us "locals".
