Most of the Army’s horses, donkeys and mules, are being donated “to align more resources with warfighting capability.”

The U.S. Army will be putting most of its ceremonial horses up for adoption as part of its overall warfighting realignment, the service announced on Tuesday.  The changes will save an estimated $2 million a year,

Meanwhile, army bases in California, Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas will sunset their MWE programs. European colonial settlers relied on horses for centuries, but official US cavalry forces are traceable all the way back to the Revolutionary War.
