Overnight temperatures are expected to plummet in the coming days. In anticipation of the expected cold spell, Beaufort County announced the opening of two cold-weather shelters.

The major winter storm, which over the weekend caused widespread school cancellations and travel delays in western and central swaths of the U.S., could bring late-night and early-morning temperatures into the low 30s and high 20s in the Hilton Head Island area.

Channel 9 is reaching out to county leaders around Central Florida to gather more details on shelters that are opening this week. Flagler County was the first local county to confirm it is opening cold weather shelters.
