The Los Angeles County medical examiner said on Sunday the death toll has risen to 16 in connection with the Eaton Fire, which has devastated the Altadena area. That was up from 11 a day earlier. The Eaton Fire, initially called the Close Fire, began before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Eaton Canyon near Altadena and Pasadena.

After decimating neighborhoods in Altadena, the Eaton Fire has now become one of the deadliest in California history.​

The complaints allege the utility failed to de-energize its power lines, which allowed the electrical equipment to spark the massive blaze near Pasadena on Jan. 7.
