Jamal Roberts won “American Idol” after a season of impressing judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, beating out John Foster and Breanna Nix.

John Foster ended Season 23 of American Idol as runner-up behind Jamal Roberts, and he’s not looking to let the momentum slow down anytime soon. Following the Sunday, May 18, finale, the teenager already has plans for what’s next.

After a season filled with a slew of talent, the Season 23 winner of “American Idol” is Jamal Roberts. The newly-crowned American Idol ended the show by singing “Her Heart” by Anthony Hamilton. Before a winner was announced, the “American Idol” finale included performances by the three judges who sang “Stuck on You.”

Host Ryan Seacrest said there were 26 million votes cast, which broke a record and was twice as many as for last year's finale.
