SLUBICE, Poland -- Poland reinstated border controls on Monday with neighboring Germany and Lithuania following similar German restrictions imposed earlier this year aimed at discouraging asylum-seekers.

Poland introduced temporary controls on its borders with Germany and Lithuania on Monday, in what the government said was a step to check migrants more thoroughly amid public concerns over immigration.

Poland reintroduced border checks with Germany and Lithuania at midnight of July 8 in a temporary move aimed at curbing unauthorised migration. The controls will remain in place until August 5, the Interior Ministry said.
