Nathan Hochman, who mounted a vigorous campaign to lead the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, held a substantial lead over incumbent George Gascón, according to early returns Tuesday night.

Los Angeles voters have had their say on one of the most closely watched district attorney's races nationwide.

In California, ballots postmarked on or before Nov. 5 are counted toward the results as long as they arrive within seven days of the election. County election officials must certify the results by Dec. 5, and the California Secretary of State's Office must certify the statewide vote by Dec. 13.

There may not be any Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors race on the Nov. 5 ballot – since the top vote-getters in the primary all won outright in March – but there is still another L.A. County-specific race and a few ballot measures to take note of.
