The city of Monterey Park hosted a candlelight vigil Tuesday night to mark the second anniversary of a mass shooting in the city that left 11 people dead. The event honored the memory of those who died in the Jan.

City officials, led by Mayor Vinh T. Ngo, who convened the vigil on the front lawn of City Hall said healing from the trauma of the mass shooting continues and won’t end until every last person who needs it is helped. They also espoused action and activism for gun violence prevention.

The lawsuits were filed by the relatives of Xiujuan Yu, Yu Lun Kao, LiLan Li and Mymy Nhan, who were among those killed when Huu Can Tran opened fire at Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park.

The City of Monterey Park, Tuesday, Jan. 21, will be holding a ceremony in memory of the 11 people killed two years ago at Star Ballroom Dance Studio. A candlelight vigil is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on the front lawn of Monterey Park City Hall, 320 W Newmark Ave.

Family members of four victims killed in the Monterey Park mass shooting two years ago, as well as one survivor, have filed lawsuits against the estate of the shooter and the dance studio where the killings took place.
