After rumors claimed Robert Kraft was having second thoughts about hiring Jerod Mayo, the latest update suggests the opposite moving forward for the Patriots.

Midway through his Friday morning press conference, Patriots coach Jerod Mayo took a curious detour. He pivoted, voluntarily, from discussing the merits of choosing a go-ahead two-point conversion versus a game-tying extra point to his personal growth as a head coach.

Mayo expects even more growth when he enters his second NFL season. Per the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan, the Patriots’ coach said he expects to make his “biggest jump” from Year 1 to Year 2. Mayo says he expects to make his “biggest jump” as a head coach from Year 1 to Year 2.

Fox Sports' Peter Schrager reports that New England also won't be willing to trade away Kyle Dugger or Davon Godchaux. It's unclear why the Patriots aren't more willing to part with some veteran assets, perhaps like running back Rhamondre Stevenson.

Mayo now has 10 games under his belt as a head coach. So far, he hasn’t appeared to be overly fiery with officials. Compared to his predecessor, Bill Belichick, Mayo has appeared to spend less time arguing with officials.
