Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar insists he is “not feeling sad”, but “perplexed”, after not being invited on stage to present the trophy named after him to Australian captain Pat Cummins. Cricket Australia quickly conceded they made an error, but not before Gavaskar expressed his frustrations.

The bilateral Test series between India and Australia is named after former India captain Gavaskar and Aussie legend Allan Border, but only the latter was called on stage to present the trophy to Pat Cummins in Sydney.

Cricket Australia has acknowledged the controversy around not inviting Sunil Gavaskar for the trophy ceremony of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) on Sunday (Jan 5). Australia skipper Pat Cummins was given the trophy by Allan Border - one half of the BGT.

The plan by Cricket Australia was that Allan Border would present the trophy if Australia won and Gavaskar would if India retained it.
