Households in England and Wales will pay £10 more on average on their monthly water bills from April, final figures show. The rise will see the average annual bill hit £603, but there are significant variations between regions.

Ofwat ended up granting higher bill increases than those proposed in the original business plans submitted by the firms in early 2024.

Thames Water – the largest water company in England – is raising bills by 31 per cent from 1 April. This will place the average bill at £639, rising by £151.

People in most parts of Wales are facing a 27% increase in their water bills from April, with the average annual bill going up from £503 to £639. It marks the start of a five-year period of bill increases from Welsh Water, totalling 42 per cent by 2029-30 - but the biggest rise will happen at the beginning.

Households now have a much better idea of their bill increases from April, which will rise at a time when many other bills are also tipped to go up sharply.
