Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet on Tuesday made Bourbon Street attack survivor and best friend of victim Tiger Bech, an honorary Cajun.

The bollards on Bourbon Street were installed in 2017 following the 2016 terrorist truck attack in Nice, France, where a man claiming to be part of the Islamic State killed 86 people and injured over 400 by driving a large truck through a pedestrian mall.

Hundreds gathered in New Orleans’ famed French Quarter to celebrate the first parade of Carnival season, just blocks from where 14 people were killed five days earlier by a careening pickup.

The center is a place for, among other things, victims of the fatal attack and their families to collect personal items that were left behind.

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden paid their respects to the 14 victims who died during the Bourbon Street terrorist attack last week, with the president giving remarks at the end.

Despite Monday's cold weather, several people still visited the memorial for the victims of the New Year’s terror attack that is set up at Bourbon Street and Canal Street.
