Penn State men's hockey reportedly earned a commitment from top NHL prospect and 5-star defenseman Gavin McKenna.

McKenna, 17, had 50 goals and 167 points in 72 games, including playoffs, last season for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL. His commitment could signal a landmark shift in hockey development.

And McKenna won’t have to do it alone. He’s set to join defenseman Jackson Smith — who was taken 14th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2025 NHL Draft — and forward Luke Misa, who was taken in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames.
