SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - An investigation is underway after officers were involved in a shooting near the Salem-Keizer city limits Wednesday, according to the Salem Police Department.

Salem police shot and killed a man Wednesday. Two officers were chasing a suspect armed with a handgun around 11:30 a.m. when the man ran into an apartment complex in the 3200 block of River Road North, the Salem Police Department said in a statement.

Salem Police asked drivers to avoid River Road NE at the Salem-Keizer city limits Wednesday afternoon because of a shooting. The area had a heavy emergency response presence and is often a busy area.

Salem police announced two police officers were involved in an incident in which an armed suspect running toward someone’s home was fatally shot. Police said officers were in a foot pursuit of a wanted man around 11:30 a.
