Sony's PlayStation 5 is finally here and the reviews are in.

Sony’s PS5 Pro, a $700 mid-gen upgrade of the PlayStation 5, launches later this week. And ahead of its official launch, Sony has sent over a PS5 Pro for us to play with and poke at. And while I can’t say anything (yet) about how games play or look on the new console, I can at least walk you through opening the box.

Generally, video game graphics have reached the coveted point of “good enough.” When Horizon Zero Dawn came out in 2017—years before the PS5 would come out—no one thought its visuals were lacking. Far from it. Yet, when Sony released a remaster of this less-than-a-decade-old game that, arguably, no one asked for, it was … actually pretty good.

PS5 Pro is a powerful refresh of the base PS5 hardware. It's the best way to experience the PS5's large library of must-play games and the current pinnacle of console gaming. However, the eye-watering $699 price tag makes it a machine that will only appeal to the most dedicated gamers.

Sony has officially revealed a new PlayStation 5 holiday bundle that will be available beginning November 22. The PlayStation 5 has been a massive success for Sony, and all signs point to November being a huge month for the hardware.

In my week of testing, the PS5 Pro delivered better visuals than the standard PS5, but it doesn't come cheap. The PlayStation 5 Pro delivered better graphics and smoother frame rates than the standard PS5 in my testing.

The lines between high-end PCs and video game consoles are blurring, which means the tired console wars are winding down. On the software side, once-exclusive Microsoft and PlayStation games are going cross-platform after a certain amount of time to draw larger audiences.
