ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On Saturday, June 8, SOWEGA RISING hosted its annual Orange Rally Candlelight Vigil and Movie in the Park event in an effort to stop gun violence.

“Habari Gani. That’s our way of saying what’s the news or greetings in Kwanzaa,” said Sherrell Byrd, Co-founder and Executive director of SOWEGA Rising.

During Tuesday’s county commission meeting, county leaders presented SOWEGA Rising and the family of Nigel Brown a proclamation recognizing June 7 as Gun Violence Awareness Day.
