Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday, marking a second consecutive night of ferocious attacks on the country, as Russia ramps up its bombardment more than three years into the war.

By Frank Jack Daniel KYIV (Reuters) -Russian drones and missiles bore down on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv early on Thursday, with officials reporting two deaths, 13 injured and fires in apartment and non-residential buildings as Washington resumed weapons delivery to the war-torn country.

There is too little data to generate a comparable live estimate for Ukraine. However, a catalogue of the known dead and missing from UAL osses, a website, implies that between 73,000 and 140,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since the invasion began.

Ukrainian officials say Russia has fired more than 700 attack and decoy drones at Ukraine overnight. That tops previous nightly barrages for the third time in two weeks.

Ukraine's military said it eliminated hundreds of Russian drones overnight after Moscow launched a massive aerial attack targeting the northwestern city of Lutsk.
