There are two massive differences between the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks as they sit at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. The Sharks’ front office is happy to be there and possibly land another first-overall pick in the draft,

• Though the Preds still rank near the bottom of the NHL with an average of 2.63 goals per game, Nashville has scored a league-high 20 goals since the start of the win streak on Jan. 14. The same team that has scored two or fewer goals in 24 of 46 contests this season has won back-to-back games by scores of 6-2 and 7-5.

At a 14-point deficit out of the last playoff spot, the Predators are more than likely too far gone to mount a run back into the race. What is swinging in their direction is having the most difficult parts of their schedule behind them.

It may seem odd to discuss whom the Nashville Predators should trade away, given that the league's trade deadline is nearly two months away. But given the current state of the team — in 14th place in the Western Conference and 15 points out of a playoff spot — it may be the only thing to discuss while watching this team's final 40 games.

The 51-year-old player-turned-coach was hired as the Predators head coach back in May 2023 after spending a season as an assistant with the New Jersey Devils. The Valley East, Ontario native was more than familiar with Nashville after one of his 16 NHL seasons in the city.

The Wild went 3-for-3 on fights in the opening six minutes of their matchup, taking out some frustration on Nashville. However, Minnesota may have burned off all of its energy exacting revenge.
