U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs announced Tuesday that he is considering a run for Arizona governor in 2026, setting up a fight with President Donald Trump's pick for the job.

Trump, who won Arizona — a “purple” swing state — by more than 5 percentage points in 2024 after losing to former President Joe Biden in 2020, encouraged businesswoman Karrin Taylor Robson to jump in the race in 2026 while delivering his victory speech in Phoenix in December.

His nominating petition will need to hit a certain threshold of signatures in order for his name to appear on the ballot. Earlier this week, he announced he was going to contemplate the “weighty decision” after filing an official statement of interest with the Secretary of State’s office.
