Assassin's Creed Shadows' executive producer divulges new information on the upcoming Ubisoft title, confirming a new modern day story.

Marc-Alexis Coté, the boss of the Assassin's Creed franchise, spoke at a BAFTA event attended by Eurogamer and recalled where things started to go awry: "Desmond's journey was at the heart of the modern-day conflict driving the search for powerful Isu artefacts—Pieces of Eden—that could change the course of history.

Assassin's Creed has always featured a blend of historical fiction wrapped up in modern-day conspiracy yarns, but in recent years the plot has struggled to find its focus between the two timelines. Ubisoft aims to correct the balance with Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The modern-day story in Assassin's Creed is set to take a new direction beginning with Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has said.

Originally scheduled to launch in October, Assassin's Creed Shadows was delayed to February 14, 2025. Ubisoft said at the time that the delay was made to give the developers more time to polish the game, and Assassin's Creed Shadows' early access has also been canceled.
