The Knoxville Police Department is investigating after an attempted car burglary in the Old City ended with a man being shot.

The Knoxville Police Department received approval to expand their co-responder program which helps people having a mental health crisis.

A man was shot early Thursday morning after trying to break into a car in the Old City, according to the Knoxville Police Department. KPD said officers responded to E. Magnolia Avenue around 6:15 a.m.

KPD also asked the public to avoid the area of East Caldwell Avenue as negotiators work to contact the man in the home.

The agreement expands the Knoxville Police Department’s partnership with Axon Enterprises for the next decade. Axon currently supplies KPD with body cameras and taser equipment. The council approved ...
