Amazon’s Prime Video is getting a new generative AI-powered feature to help catch you up on a show. The new tool, called X-Ray Recaps, can create text summaries of “of full seasons of TV shows, single episodes, and even pieces of episodes,” the company says in a blog post.

Amazon has turned to AI to create recaps for TV shows on Prime Video — starting with its own original series — in a way the company claims won’t risk revealing spoilers. On Monday, Amazon announced X-Ray Recaps on Prime Video,

Using custom Amazon AI models trained on the video segments, subtitles and dialogue of the Prime Video library, it can create descriptions of key events, places, times and even conversations. It then applies guardrails to ensure it is spoiler-free and easy to read at a distance.

X-Ray Recaps builds on Prime Video's existing X-Ray feature, which provides viewers with additional information about the show or movie, like trivia, cast details, soundtrack information, and production insights. You can access the X-Ray feature by pausing whatever you're watching and finding it in the menu at the bottom of the screen.

Instead of scouring the internet for a summary of a TV show, which often risks unintentionally revealing major plot points, Prime Video’s latest feature aims to save viewers from encountering any spoilers.

AI recaps on Prime Video should make it easier to get back into a series. The recaps also work within an episode.
