Rafael intensified into a Category 1 hurricane Friday evening, the National Hurricane Center said. Rafael currently has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and will move north of The Caymans and cross Cuba on Wednesday.

The National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Rafael formed Tuesday evening on its way toward Cuba and the Gulf of Mexico while tropical storm warnings were issued for the Florida Keys.

MIAMI - The lower and middle Florida Keys are now under a tropical storm warning as Tropical Storm Rafael is forecast to grow steadily as it churns past Jamaica's west coast on a path for Cuba, where it's expected to arrive later in the week as a hurricane.
