IT Minister highlighted India's cost-effective approach to space exploration, specifically the Chandrayaan-2 mission, and expressed confidence that India could similarly develop large language models (LLMs) at a fraction of the cost compared to other countries.

As part of his global tour, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is in Delhi today for the company’s DevDay, joined by India’s IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and OpenAI’s policy lead Pragya Misra. Altman underlined India’s significance in the global AI ecosystem, also calling it their second biggest market.

Sam Altman said that India is a crucial market for AI, especially for OpenAI, and should be a leading force in the AI revolution. He expressed amazement at how the country has embraced the technology and built an entire ecosystem around it.
