Porsche once hoped it would sell 80% electric vehicles by 2030. Now, it's backtracking on its EV goals. Porsche may come back on its decision not to make a new combustion-powered Macan after production of the current model ends in 2026.

Porsche launched an electric-only second-generation Macan last year with plans to end first-generation production in 2026. However, the German automaker’s worst-selling model in 2024 was the Taycan. Sales for the first electric Porsche plummeted 50 percent last year, with only 20,836 Taycans sold. Autocar explained the potential shift:

Slowing growth in EV demand, especially in the luxury sector, means Porsche will now continue to offer gas engines for longer.

An insider says Porsche is worried about the Macan EV's long-term sales, so a new ICE model might become necessary.

Porsche delivered over 310,700 vehicles globally last year, or about 9,500 less than in 2023. Sales in China led the downfall, plunging 28% from the prior year amid a wave of low-cost domestic EVs entering the market.
