The company said 300,000 people in the second-largest U.S. city have been waiting to use its robotic ridehail service – twice the number of paid weekly rides it provides.

Waymo on Tuesday opened its robotaxi service to anyone who wants a ride around Los Angeles, marking another milestone in the evolution of self-driving car technology since the company began as a secret project at Google 15 years ago.

In another escalation of the robotaxi wars, Waymo opened up its driverless ride-hailing platform across more of Los Angeles, and is now offering rides around the clock from Santa Monica Pier to Downtown LA.
