U.S. Customs and Border Protection is speaking out after a man from Peterborough, New Hampshire, was stopped at the Canadian border over the weekend.

Gov. Kelly Ayotte recently signed a law that will create and sell a new license plate that celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Two historic copies of the Declaration of Independence are on display temporarily inside the New Hampshire State House, where visitors can get an up-close look at the penmanship of those who founded the United States of America some 249 years ago.

Chris Landry has lived in New Hampshire since he was 3-years-old. But Sunday, he was stopped at the border in Houlton, Maine, while returning home from a family vacation in Canada. Landry was questioned about past misdemeanor convictions and was told he cannot come home.

“Lawful Permanent Residents presenting at a U.S. port of entry with previous criminal convictions may be subject to mandatory detention and/or may be asked to provide additional documentation to be set up for an immigration hearing,” the spokesperson added.
