The holiday season took an even more festive turn for one Canadian couple from Nova Scotia after a massive lottery win.

A lottery ticket bought at a hometown grocery store paid off for one lottery player visiting his family in Iowa over Christmas. William Beyerink picked up a $10 scratch-off ticket at a Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh in Sioux City while “home for the holidays,” Iowa lottery officials said.

The first prize in the Channel Islands Lottery 2024 Christmas Draw has been claimed. The States of Guernsey confirmed on Friday that the owner of winning ticket number 676349, from Jersey, had come forward. It said the winner of the £483,795 jackpot wished to remain anonymous.

An Iowa woman had a particularly memorable Christmas when one of her gifts, a scratch-off lottery ticket, turned out to be a $250,000 winner.

Lilian Hernandez — a first-time lottery player from Silver Spring — won $50,000 from a $5 Deluxe Crossword 9th Edition game after her aunt suggested she purchase the scratch-off, the Maryland Lottery said in a Dec. 30 news release.

An Iowa woman said she always believed she’d win the lottery one day. That day was Christmas, thanks to a lucky ticket given to her by her husband, according to a news release from Iowa Lottery officials.

The Caroline County woman, who usually plays the Print ‘N Play Bingo game two or three times a week, tried a 50X the Money Scratcher game instead and won $200,000, the Virginia Lottery said in a Dec. 28 post on X, formerly Twitter.
