New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the torn UCL in his pitching elbow on Friday, manager Aaron Boone told reporters prior to Thursday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone says pitcher Clarke Schmidt will undergo a second Tommy John surgery that will sideline him for the rest of this season and much of next season.

Per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced Clarke Schmidt will undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday. Schmidt has been on the 15-day injured list because of a forearm injury.
