Connor Zilisch held off JR Motorsports teammate Shane van Gisbergen in the closing laps to win Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Sonoma Raceway for his fourth career victory. The two battled 1-2 for nearly the entire 79-lapper in Wine Country, the duo combining to lead all but nine laps and trading blows throughout the first two stages.
After tempers flared in Chicago, Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen gave fans something even better in Sonoma—mutual respect and edge-of-seat racing.
For Zilisch, the victory was revenge for last Saturday’s Xfinity race at the Chicago Street Course, where the 36-year-old van Gisbergen ran his 18-year-old teammate wide in Turn 2 to take the lead and win a two-lap shootout for the victory.

Since the inaugural event two years ago, the Cup and Xfinity series have been affected by inclement weather. After both series’ races were shortened by thunderstorms in 2023, the Cup Series ended 17 laps short of the full distance last year because of rain delays.
