May 3, 2011 · I can confirm that my Macbook Pro M1 outputs 4K/60Hz with the Apple AV adapter. The details in 'System Information' look identical to direct output with a USB-C to Displayport cable. However, some devices (eg. my Pixelbook Go) only output 4K/60Hz via Displayport, so this cable remains my preference (using a Caldigit Soho).

If Apple decides, for instance to make having ProRes Encode/Decode engines a requirement for the operating system due to a fundamental feature, then you might see M1 Macs dropped, while M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, and newer keep support.

Dec 26, 2021 · I’ve been trying to use an M1 Pro Macbook Pro 16” with an HP Omen 27” monitor through a DisplayPort 1.4 to USB C cable. The monitor defaults to a refresh rate of 165 Hz. Whenever I plug it in and the setup is at this refresh rate I see vertical pink and green bars on the image. Sharing a few images below.
