Sep 4, 2011 · Has anyone used StewMac cherry red on MAPLE? I'm getting ready to stain a maple 335 type guitar but I want the aged Epi Sheraton/Riviera red, which is more of an in-between of cherry red and wine. Sort of an antique Heritage Red, I guess. I've got both stain and cherry red tinted lacquer coming.

May 22, 2005 · Yes, to get a Gibson-style dark red, I'd start with ColorTone (Transtint) transparent Cherry Red. Then it may need a drop of black or dark brown. Mix it in thin and build it up in 4-8 coats to get the depth and darkness of red that you want.
